Sant'Orso Parish Church in Cogne Valley

A legend holds that the church in Cogne was built on a site chosen by divine intervention. Before the church was built, the people of Cogne had to travel far to reach the chapel in Crêt to attend Sunday mass. During winter, the path became even more difficult to navigate because of the ice, so the people of Cogne, tired of the situation, decided to build a church in Cogne.

Lisardey, a hamlet on the right bank of the river, was chosen as the location for the new church. When relics were brought to the site, something very strange happened: they disappeared and were found on the opposite bank of the river. Many attempts were made to take the relics back to the chosen site but they always returned to the other side of the river. So the people of Cogne, believing they had witnessed a manifestation of God's will, built their church in the location the Lord had chosen.
